Today is a rare Saturday that finds me getting organized, catching up, looking forwards — in other words, not out delivering a wedding! It gives me a chance to look back, too. Today I’m thinking about Rachel and Donny’s wedding at Bell Harbor last summer. They were the sweetest of couples — so much so that just after the ceremony, when I discreetly snuck back to tear down their arch and transfer flowers to the reception, they stopped me on the rooftop deck to hug me and say how much they loved their flowers. Aww! Man, talk about taking time to connect with people. This open-heartedness bodes well for a long and happy marriage. (I didn’t tell them that I was partially teary-eyed because moments before, my assistant had let the arch drop and it fell on my head. And when I say “assistant,” I actually mean my dad, who had helped me out for the first and last time that day. Sorry Dad — love you anyway.)
